The Kindergarten classrooms recently transformed into a joyful canvas of rose and blush as students celebrated the "Colour of the Month – Pinky Winky." Held on November 6, 2025, this vibrant, hands-on activity was far more than just a lesson in colour recognition; it was a holistic learning experience designed to nurture young minds and hearts.
The primary goal of the Pinky Winky event was to help our young learners—the Kindergarten students—recognize, identify, and truly appreciate the colour pink through fun, hands-on experiences. Students engaged their senses and sharpened their cognitive skills through a variety of creative activities, including art, craft, and a special "Show and Tell."
Kindergarten 1 students enjoyed creating an adorable handprint flamingo craft, while our Kindergarten 2 students focused on their fine motor skills by constructing a beautiful paper flower using various shades of pink. These engaging tasks not only reinforced the colour concept but also boosted their creativity and dexterity.
A highlight of the day was the "Show and Tell" session, where students confidently shared pink-coloured items they brought from home. This activity encouraged real-world connections, helping them understand that colours are a vibrant part of their everyday life, while simultaneously building their communication skills and self-assurance.
The underlying purpose of the Pinky Winky celebration extends deep into our educational philosophy, aligning perfectly with both the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and our 9GEMS Framework.
The activity promoted Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3) by encouraging emotional expression, joy, and confidence through an inclusive environment, Quality Education (SDG 4) by using sensory and creative play to enhance cognitive and emotional development, and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), ensuring every child participated equally in the fun and learning.
In the spirit of the 9GEMS Framework, the event nurtured Academic Excellence by strengthening early concept understanding and vocabulary. It fully emphasized Gem 3: Visual and Performing Arts, Gem 4: Personality Development, Gem 5: Innovation and Creativity, and Gem 9: Skill development.
The Colour of the Month activity proved that the simplest concepts can lead to the richest learning, transforming a single colour into a powerful lesson in creativity, communication, and kindness.
